Seven Deadly Sins Week: Pride

Pride: /prīd/ A high opinion of one's own worth or possessions. 2. Pleasure or satisfaction in something concerned with oneself. 3. Too high an opinion of oneself.

I thought I'd begin with Pride because it's one of the most difficult sins to admit to. On the surface there's nothing wrong with it; having some pride is a good thing.

However, there's a fine line between self-respect and conceit. What makes pride so deadly is that it sneaks up on us. We think it's okay to hold our selves in high-esteem and to some degree it is, but when our self-esteem comes at the expense of someone else, it's pride.

Pride was the sin that eventually killed Narcissus. It caused the angel Lucifer to be thrown out of heaven, the hare was a victim of pride when he decided to nap in the middle of his race with the tortoise, and pride almost prevented Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet from realizing they were meant for each other.

C.S. Lewis writes, "Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man."

Pride always has to be right. It is always better, stronger and wealthier than someone else.
Pride delights in comparisons, it can be nurtured as long as it has the upper hand, but a soon as it meets someone it perceives as superior, it will stop at nothing to ruin them.

 Pride destroys everything it touches.
There's an old saying; "Pride comes before a fall."  Every single person who has fallen--either publicly or privately---has pride to blame for it.

And that is why pride is the deadliest of sins.
The other six wouldn't be able to function quite the same without it.

Pride is perfectly captured in this rich, smoky purple with multi-coloured shimmer. Two coats cover the nail nicely and the formula is perfect.

The Sinfully Polished Collection is available to order through BB Couture's website or at Overallbeauty.com. The cost is $9.95 for 15ml.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
Ginger-who fully admits that pride was the sin responsible for her dropping out of university.
