Old School:Sally Hansen Chrome Royal Purple

Good Afternoon All!
This colour is a part of Sally Hansen's Chrome collection.I don't remember what year it was released, but I do remember that no one else was doing metallics at the time.I have 5 colours from this collection, and they're all pretty awesome,(I swatched Carnelian a few months ago). The only negative thing about these is the wear. They chip off in sheets! no matter what kind of topcoat I use,I can always count on losing at least 1/4 of the polish to chips. Bah.

I just realized that I haven't described the colour yet! It's a metallic red-purple.Deeper,and more "blue" in person. I really like it :)

One picture because my camera battery died shortly after this one was taken :(

I have more posts scheduled for later, but for now I'm off to clean the bathroom. What a glamourous life I lead!

Ginger-who is planning on finishing my Christmas shopping next week. Yep,I'm one of those.

5 Guys I Used To Like

Hello All! I wasn't tagged by any specific person,I just decided to do this because I thought it would be fun. So in chronological order, my 5 guys:

1.Bruce Lee: Oh, who am I kidding? I still love Bruce! I was really young when I caught my first Bruce Lee film, and my brand of fandom didn't so much involve wanting to be with him as much as it did wanting to be him. (does that sentence make sense? hm.) He's the best martial artist of all time and the class of the entire field. Martial arts films would not be what they are today without his influence.

2. Malcolm Jamal Warner a.k.a. Theo from the Cosby Show: I had a huge crush on 'Theo' when I was younger! I thought he was the cutest thing ever and I was convinced that we would get married someday (hey, give me a break I was 6!) Ahhh, youth!

3.Morris Chestnut: When his character was killed in Boyz in tha Hood,I cried like a baby. He played the ultimate good guy; good grades, athletic, handsome, and popular. Only to have his life cut short because of his no-good brother (i figure this didn't warrant a spoiler alert because the movie is nearly 18 years old). What's more,he still looks exactly the same today! And he's an awesome actor.

4. Orlando Bloom: For the record, I think he looks much better as Legolas than he does in any of his other roles (i think i was tantalized by the blonde wig and elf ears). He's the ultimate pretty boy and that is why I had a crush on him for over a year. An odd side note: We share a birthday ! (January 13th)

5.Sheldon Souray (of the Edmonton Oilers): I am a huge hockey fan. I watch the game mostly for the fast-pace,and the fights.Occasionally though,I'll see a player and think 'Oh my gosh who is that?' because he's so darn attractive. Sheldon happens to be a very talented hockey player with one of the hardest slap shots in the NHL (102 mph--he's broken the protective glass  around various arenas more than once) but he's also very handsome and has been featured in mags like GQ and Esquire. Oh, and he's done a bit of runway modeling too.

I decided not to include my more embarassing crushes, (Luke Perry anyone? no? how about Tiger Woods? yeah...not so much)  because I don't want anyone questioning my sanity ;)

Have a lovely evening!

Ginger-who is  anxiously awaiting the arrival of the rest of my hauls. My mailman must think I'm nuts.

Workplace Approved: China Glaze Hybrid

Hello Everyone!
I just have a quickie post today becauseI have to leave for work soon. I purchased China Glaze Hybrid in the haul that Moody helped me pick out. It's neutral beige-brown with shimmer, and it is one of those shades that are beautiful but understated.  It's perfect for work.

(wow,i'm even boring myself today...)

Two pictures,1 indoors with flash,1 indoors no flash because it is -11 degrees Celsius with a -20 degree windchill.

That's all I have for now,have a wonderful Friday!

Ginger-who is all for saving the world if it means I still get to eat bacon.

This Revvvolution Will Not Be Televised

It will however,be blogged about. This colour made it into my top 20 after OPI decided that My Private Jet  wasn't good enough as a charcoal-based holo, and then proceeded to change the colour several times. As if we wouldn't notice. As it stands,I love both the old and the new MPJ. I'm just disappointed because I can no longer get my hands on the original. Whatever, Color Club Revvvolution is even more beautiful than old MPJ.
There,I've said it.

Two indoor pictures because it is -10 degrees Celsius outside!

The title of this post is a play on the poem by writer and activist Gil Scott-Heron. My mother was the one who introduced me to his work, and I have been a fan ever since.  Artists who use the platform of music and literature to raise awareness about issues have my utmost respect. Oscar Wilde once said that "All art is useless", but I disagree. Some art has the ability to change lives.

Anyway, here's a clip of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised by Gil Scott-Heron. I thought it would be (somewhat) appropriate.
Enjoy!

Hugs :))

A Dirty Sexy Konad

Hello Again!
My opinion of animal prints ranges from awesome,to tacky. One or two animal print pieces worn with a solid neutral? Awesome. Head-to-toe animal print on humans? Tacky.  An animal print stamp layered over a sexy colour? Awesome!

To create this look I used plate M57,with Dirty Sexy Money as a base colour and China Glaze Metallic Muse for the stamp.

under lamp

with full flash

Pretty!

I really like the way this turned out. Initially I was worried that the Metallic Muse wouldn't be visible against a Dirty Sexy money background, but I'm happy I was wrong.

Well, that's all I have for you at the moment, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day :)

Ginger-who just received her first Nfu Oh flakies today! Verdict: Loves <3

Misa Dirty Sexy Money

Hello Beautiful People!
Today's swatch is Misa's Dirty Sexy Money,an insanely beautiful dusty turquoise creme. I bought this one ages ago,and it sat untried in my stash until today ( this day has been kind of a downer,so I really needed to wear something cheery). It sounds kind of crazy, but wearing it did help change my disposition. I heart this colour!

I think Misa is one of the best NP brands out there (their current  boring  collection notwithstanding) .I love the formula, the square bottle shape is classy and easy to store, and I love their colour selection. They just might make it into my top 10 polish companies.

In non-related nail polish news, my niece has discovered the art of swearing. At the tender age of 2, she already has quite the vocabulary. By way of an example, a script:

Nuni is sitting at the dining room table colouring,Moody sneaks up beside her and snatches one of her crayons.

Moody: Ha Ha! I got your crayon!

Nuni: (angrily) No! Moody! STUPID ASS!

End Scene.

My niece is a potty-mouth.

Her punishment was a time-out and she had to apologize to Moody, her mother, and I for disrupting our supper. Oh well, at least she didn't use the f-word this time.

Have a nice day ladies!

Ginger-who doesn't swear, but uses the word douchebag frequently. Is that wrong?

What's On Deck?

Good Morning and Happy Monday!
I don't have any pretty pictures for you today so here's what you can look forward to seeing this week:

  • More hauls (I think I should stop now)
  • More Konad-for better or for worse
  • Better writing (ha! just kidding, this blog just wouldn't be the same without my verbose and scattered sentences)
  • More Christmas-y  colours (because T'is the Season,after all)
  • Stories! (I have a ton of them,I just wish I had my brother's storytelling skills)
  • Lots of fabulous prizes! (OK, maybe not "lots",but some. You all have been good to me and I wanted to reward you in some way)
  • More pictures!
  • Christian Side-hugs! (again, just kidding-I've had that song stuck in my head for the past couple of days and I can't make it stop)
  • Workplace appropriateness. Mom and youth group approved nail polish :)

Have an Awesome Day!

Ginger-who has been told she'd make a good lawyer because,"You can talk circles around everyone else". Thanks a lot Dad.

Sunday Mani and A Big Christian Side-Hug?

Helloo! My NOTD is Jessica Grecian Touch . I'm not going to bore you with the description because, quite frankly, Scrangie described it  better here and I'm too lazy to come up with one of my own.

Behold!

What I have in lieu of a polish description is a video I found on You Tube.It was made for a church youth rally, and I'm pretty sure that it was meant as satire. I have had many experiences with church youth groups  over the years; Some were heplful and supportive, and others were restrictive and legalistic. I remember one youth group I attended that had very strict rules about what members could wear.Skirts had to be a certain length, make up had to be tasteful and not "extreme" (so, no black nail polish for me!) and we couldn't watch or listen to anything that was "of the secular world". Which meant that I couldn't listen to most music or watch anything on TV. I left after I had an argument with the youth leader about my unwillingness to follow "the rules" (I refused to stop listening to Soundgarden-hardly cause for eternal damnation). Yet I still turned out OK.

 (wow...that was a long introduction!)

Anyway, this video stirred up some controversy because it was seen as yet another attempt made by church leaders to control the lives of young people. As it stands now certain behaviours are frowned upon in most Christian congregations so hugging was pretty much the only thing teenagers could do without incurring the wrath of God...or their parents. And now that's wrong too? Ridiculous! Except...it was made AS A JOKE! There is no such thing as a Christian Side-hug. I'm a firm (no pun intended) believer in full-frontal hugging and there isn't anything wrong with that. People just need to stop taking everything so seriously.

Big Hug!
Ginger-who is wearing vampy nail polish to church...Oh yes I am!

KOTD:Jackson Pollock

Hello All!
This is part 2 of my Jackson Pollock inspired Konad (part 1 can be seen here). All of the credit goes to DeezNailz, who commented that she always wanted to see what this pattern, (M70) would look like layered with different colours. I started out with Sally Hansen Extreme Wear in Black Out as a base, and used Konad special polishes in light blue, light green, pink, and white. The result is a full-on abstract expressionist manicure reminiscent of the works of Paul Jackson Pollock.

And here is a picture of Jackson Pollock in action. I'm more into portraits and landscapes,so anything abstract used to be a hard sell for me. I didn't realize how difficult  doing an abstract work was until I had to do it as an assignment. I left with a new appreciation for all artists who have mastered this.

Also,I didn't realize how huge his paintings were! (this is the direct result of looking at his paintings only in textbooks and on slides)

That's all folks!

Have a beautiful Saturday!

Ginger-who has more exciting news for you later on...Stay tuned!

NOTD:Orly Poison Apple

Hello Ladies!  If you're a regular reader of this blog you know that I haven't been in the most festive mood of late. Christmas is my favourite holiday but for some reason I'm Ms Scrooge this year.I don't want to shop,I don't want to decorate, and when people ask me what I want  I usually say something like, "I don't know",or "I don't really care". And that,my friends,is just wrong.

I chose Orly's Poison Apple, (a scarlet jelly) as my NOTD in hopes that it would shake me out of my winter doldrums.  It is really strange how much I like this colour.I'm not a huge fan of creme/jelly finishes, (unless they're pink or vampy) so I automatically rejected this colour when it was first released.  But I was so wrong! Orly's formula is perfect as usual, the colour is very cheery and bright, and I achieved the bottle colour in just
two coats. I  love it :)

Top picture indoors no flash, bottom picture indoors with flash and a festive ribbon

...And because I haven't done this in a while, some music. I had no idea who Daniel Merriweather was until I heard the stellar cover of The Smiths' Stop Me (If You Think You've Heard This One Before) that he did with producer Mark Ronson. It was the most played song on my IPod for an entire year! (well, that, and 'It's Tricky' by Run DMC)  Anyway, I found this gem after Google-ing the word "red". I was hoping to find a happy, upbeat song that would match the mood of this polish. Instead I get a heartbreaking tale of a relationship gone wrong, a.k.a. the musical equivalent of a wet blanket. Oh well, it is a great song and  Daniel Merriweather has an amazing voice. He's now on my "official " list of men who I'd pay to sing every name in the phone book (the others are Stevie Wonder, MJ ,Chris Cornell and Layne Staley). As usual,if this type of music isn't your thing you can just skip it and move on.

You missed my rambling didn't you?

Have a happy Friday!

Pinkginger-who is planning on Christmas shopping tomorrow.Yay.

BB Couture Spellbound

Hello!
This is going to be another quick post, but I promise I'll have more to say later on.

*crickets chirping*

Anyway,I bought this colour months ago,but for some strange reason I haven't gotten around to swatching it until today. It's a beautiful vampy purple and I adore everything about it.That is all.

I hope you liked it!

Have a great day :)

Ginger-who is very happy to be working in the stock room today!

A Cool Mani and an Unlikely Inspiration

Hi All! I don't have much time today because I'm getting ready for work,so I'll try to be succinct. For this mani I used Konad plate M70,with OPI Ink suede as a base, and Konad special polish in white for the pattern. I wanted this mani to look cool and wintery, but I suppose  I should have used a lighter blue. Hm. I still like the way it turned out though, because this print looks like it was designed by Jackson Pollock. And that is why I love it.

One picture,SV topcoat

...and one Jackson Pollock painting so you'll know exactly what I'm babbling about!

I love being an art nerd :)

Have a wonderful day ladies!

Ginger-who is looking forward to the end of the Christmas season. Is that wrong?

NOTD:OPI My Daddy's the King

Hello Ladies! To herald the beginning of the work week (and to fulfill a reader request),I wanted to do a workplace-appropriate manicure. I don't often wear pale colours, but this is one of my favourites. It's a  peachy-pink with a slight shimmer. It' s perfect for those times when you want your voice to speak louder than your nails.

One picture indoors, no flash (Seche Vite topcoat, no base)

I do love colours like this, but I usually put them aside in favor of brights or vampies.I love how feminine and subtle they are.

I cannot think of anything else to say, (I blame lack of sleep) so I'll end here. For those of you who are interested I plan to swatch work appropriate colours at least once a week :)

Have a great work day!

Ginger-who is going to be happy no matter how many customers yell at me :)

Haul as Picked by Ginger and Moody

Hello All!
My Transdesign haul arrived on my doorstep on Wednesday! This is always very exciting for me because it's like Christmas every day.Only,I'm the one paying for the gifts. Anyway, the reason why this particular haul is so special is because my nephew, Moody, helped pick out the colours. He has always been an astute observer of things, and make-up and nails are no exception. At the tender age of 4 he told me that, while he likes when I wear different colours of nail polish, red and pink look the best. He is also the first to compliment a new hair cut,or perfume.A few years ago I overheard an exchange between him and his buddies. They asked him why his shirt was pink.Moody responded in a tone of voice only reserved for the most asinine of questions;  *heavy sigh*  "Because Tupac and Biggie are on it and they're,like, the best rappers ever!" The two little guys had nothing else to say after that.

So this is for Moody : My one of a kind, fashion conscious, nephew who has impeccable taste in nail polish, clothes, and rappers.

Here's what we picked out:

Misa: Glimmering Mauve,Bo Jangles,Ghetto Fabulous, China Glaze: TMI,Hybrid,Pom Pom,Flower Girl, and In the Lime Light (Moody was particularly excited about this one)

Sation: Glowing Garnet, and Mikasa,Amour Rain Glitter, OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Suede, and Merryberry Mauve

We did a good job don't you think?

Have an awesome day!

Pinkginger-who is glad to have finally seen the sun today...I just wish it wasn't along with  a -5 Celsius temperature. Brrrrr!

What's Next

Hello All!
I just wanted to share what I have planned for later. Work has been ridiculously busy and I go to bed at times that would put my "early-to-bed" grandmother to shame,(seriously,7:30? I'm considering dyeing my hair gray and changing my name to Myrtle-it suits my current lifestyle) Anyway,I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you,(or your blogs-if you have them). I've just been a little busy with the stuff that isn't fun. And sleep.

In no particular order here's what you can expect:
  • More Konad.I have even more plates than I did before.Be afraid.Be very afraid.
  • More "mom" shades. This is the result of a reader request (thank you Deedee!) Don't forget,my email address is on the page if you have any suggestions (unless of course, that suggestion is to shut up.I am physically incapable of fulfilling that one). I will be featuring more work-appropriate colours for everyone who can't (or shouldn't) wear more outlandish colours.
  • A theme week! This is either the best idea I've ever had,or the lamest. You'll be able to decide for yourselves soon.
  • Haul pictures-At the rate I'm going,it looks like everyone in my family will be getting nail polish for Christmas. Zoya Dovima would look great on my dad ;)
  • More cremes-I hardly have any cremes/jellies,but I promise to feature more of them in the future.
  • More music...and rambling.
  • More stories!  *crickets*   Well,I'm happy.
Have a happy Friday!

Ginger-who saw a rainbow yesterday.I think it's a good sign.

One Stamp,Two Ways

Hello Ladies! Just a quick post today because I have to leave for work shortly, (procrastination is rarely ever a good thing). Here are two manis I did over the weekend using stamp M63. The base colours are China Glaze 2030 and OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow. The stamp colours are Konad Princess  polish in Psyche Pink and China Glaze 2030 (I love this colour for stamping!)

Take a look:

I love this one!

This one is vampy and Christmas-y (love this also)

I'm pretty happy about the way they turned out. What do you guys *ahem* ladies think?

That's all I have time for,have a great day!

Ginger-Who is looking forward to spending some quality time with my books.
